Twitter has acquired Bagcheck, a sharing and discovery platform. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, and co-founder Sam Pullara will be joining the Twitter engineering team. We’ve embedded the announcement below.
Bagcheck allows people to share and discover what’s inside your “bags”. People can comment on and share lists of the stuff they use and why. By ‘bags’, the startup refers to any sort of curated list or collection. For example, people can post a collection of photography gear or what their favorite cooking tools are.
It’s unclear what Twitter will do with Backcheck (for now the service is continuing to remain online and in operation), but Pullara is definitely a big win for the company’s engineering team. He was previously an EIR at Benchmark and was was the former Chief Technologist at Yahoo. He also worked as the Head of Application Platform at Yahoo!, where he focused primarily on grid computing, virtualization, large scale reliable data systems and the implementation of Yahoo’s open platform strategy.
Before joining Yahoo, Pullara worked as CEO of Gauntlet Systems, which developed the first Intelligent Continuous Integration system. Gauntlet was acquired by Borland, where Pullara served as Chief Architect.
Pullara’s fellow cofounder at Bagcheck, Luke Wroblewski writes that he won’t be joining Twitter’s engineering team.

Now, Sam will bring his passion for connecting people to what interests them to his new role at Twitter.
What’s Happening to Bagcheck?
Bagcheck will continue to be available. That means all the great content you’ve made is staying online at the same URLs and will still be searchable, sharable, and lovable. But as with any acquisition, things may change at some point in the future, so if you’re worried about your content we’ve also created an instant export feature that will wrap all the bags you’ve made into a tidy set of HTML and JSON files. You can export all your content using this feature on your profile page and post or save your bags anywhere you like.
